Apples are crisp and juicy fruits. They are one of the most widely consumed fruits globally. With a diverse range of varieties, apples come in different colors, sizes, and flavours. They are typically round or slightly elongated, with a smooth or slightly rough skin.

Apples are known for their nutritional benefits. They are a good source of dietary fiber, particularly in the skin, which aids digestion and promotes a healthy gut. They also contain essential vitamins like vitamin C, which boosts the immune system, and various B vitamins that support energy production.

So it’s Safe For My Hamster to Eat Apples?

Yes, it is perfectly safe for your hamster to eat pieces of apple as a treat. What you should do is remove the skin from your apple as sometimes it can contain harmful toxins due to the way we grow our crops. Once you have removed the skin you can either grate it up into small strips or cut it up into little chunks.

You want to make small sized pieces for your little fury friend. You can offer your hamster these as small treats. Be sure not to feed them too much, too much of a good thing can be bad for them.

Apple treats are a good source of vitamin C which helps promote healing and can help fight scurvy. It would be good to give your hamster a small tasty treat of apple once or twice a week as well as other fruits and veggies that are safe for hamsters.

Please be aware that with any fresh food you give your hamster, you need to ensure it is removed from the cage after 24 hours to make sure it doesn’t spoil. Hamsters are insane hoarders and will literally horde anything. Last thing you want is mouldy food in your hamsters house.

Just ensure that your apples are peeled, washed and de-seeded as mentioned above. Of course don’t over feed them and only use apples as an occasional sweet treat! Always feed your hamster manageable pieces of food.

Hamsters can eat a wide range of fruits like strawberries, pears, peaches, and even mangoes. But please note hamsters should not eat Oranges, they are full of sugar!
